Sometimes you need a little reminder about things that you love. It just happened here after receiving a new shipment of the Claus Porto large bath bar soaps.
Not only are these a great quality, natural with a vegetable oil and shea butter base, but the packaging is gorgeous! Every scent has it's own design, inspired by Art Deco wall coverings.
The bar itself is quite large, about 12 ounces. it even comes with finger grips on the bottom so it is easier to hold! They are milled 7 times (that is a lot), so it creates a long-lasting bar that does not crack as it gets near the end. The extra milling also makes Claus Porto soaps last approximately 3 times longer than other soaps the same size.
Usually, my favorite is the Alface (Almond). It is super creamy with a nice subtle almond scent; not over-powering or sharp. But, I'm really liking one of the new scents, Lize (Morning Glory). It's such a fresh floral and I love the orange and pink package design too!

Why Fair Trade?

At our store, we've been busy lately with our town's efforts to become one of America's Fair Trade Towns (and we now are - Red Bank is America's 15th Fair Trade Town! And so, we are asked, why Fair Trade?  In short, because it is a good belief to live life by.  Fair Trade is a partnership between the producer/worker and buyer that seeks greater equity in international trade.  Fair Trade ensures good working conditions, no child or forced labor, payment of fair prices, being environmentally responsible, non-discriminating and creates opportunities for economically disadvantaged workers, helping them to be more self-sufficient.

There are so many ways Fair Trade can be in our lives; through the sugar, tea and coffee we drink, grains we eat, flowers we buy and more.  How does it come into play with bath & body products?  Many core ingredients are available through a Fair Trade environment.  Olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter and again, sugar, are all available in Certified Fair Trade, making most any bar of soap, body lotion or creme and sugar scrub we use possible to make Fair Trade.  Not only are these items produced in an environmentally-friendly manner, the companies that purchase these raw goods tend to be ones that also run their own businesses in an eco-friendly fashion, making them even more desirable to us.

Look for the Certified Fair Trade or the Fair Trade Federation logos when you shop!

Dani Natural Products @ soapmarket

One of our favorite lines at soapmarket is from Dani, who make natural products for bath, body and home.  The products are made from 100% vegetable oil bases; the candles from pure soy wax. Also incorporated are organic oils and other organic ingredients, without petroleum, paraben, artificial colors, dyes, animal by-products, or sodium or ammonia laurel/laureth sulfates. Their custom essential oil blends result in unique yet true to life scents.  My favorite is the Grapefruit Ginger. 

But there are more reasons why we love this line:  it is the way they care not only for creating natural products for your skin, but doing it in a way that remains good for the enviroment.   All packaging is either made from post-consumer recycled materials, is recyclable itself, printed with soy-based inks, is biodegradable and/or printed from local/regional sources.

Welcome to soapmarket!

Welcome to our first blog post!  Here at soapmarket & soapmarketonline.com, we sell soap (as you guessed), bath & body products, accessories, gifts and handcrafted jewelry; all kinds of fun things. 

We strive to stay pretty natural, if not all natural, in our product choices as well as enviromentally friendly, while hoping to have something for everyone at the same time and hopefully not breaking the bank.  We love manufacturers that consider the whole big picture when producing their product. 

All this means our job is pretty fun, spending the day in the store.  We are a neighborhood shop, in downtown Red Bank, NJ.  We've been enjoying meeting new customers all around the country too (and even some overseas) through our online store, www.soapmarketonline.com.  And in addition we get to search for, test and select lots of new products!
